Designed for workers who spend their days transporting and offloading goods rather than off-roading and adventuring, 4×2 utes are favoured by buyers on a budget and fleets.
These are the most efficient 4×2 utes in Australia. The following vehicles have been selected from the 4×2 segment of the VFACTS sales chart published by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).

Ford Ranger
The Ford Ranger XLT 4×2 dual cab pickup 2.0 Bi-Turbo diesel 10AT uses 6.9L/100km, making it the most efficient member of the range.
The range opens with the Ranger XL 4×2 single cab chassis, priced at $35,880 excluding on-road costs, and extends to the Ranger XLT 4×2 Bi-Turbo double cab pickup, starting at $56,440. Both prices exclude on-road costs.
Ford backs the Ranger lineup with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, and the ute has a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
Isuzu D-Max
The Isuzu D-Max 4×2 SX crew cab ute 1.9L auto uses a claimed 6.7L/100km, making it the most fuel-efficient variant in the range.
Starting with the SX Single cab chassis 1.9L manual, priced at $32,490 drive-away, the range extends to the LS-U Crew Cab Ute 3.0L auto, starting at $54,500 before on-road costs.
The entire D-Max range has a five-star rating ANCAP safety rating, and is backed by a six-year, 150,000km warranty.
LDV T60 Max
The T60 Max Plus auto and Max Plus Mega Tub auto both use a claimed 8.9L/100km.
The range opens with LDV T60 Max Plus auto, priced at $45,990 drive-away and extends to the LDV T60 Max Plus Mega Tub auto, priced at $49,490 drive-away.

The LDV T60 is backed by a seven-year, 200,000km warranty, and has a five-star ANCAP safety rating based on testing conducted in 2017.
Mazda BT-50
The most fuel-efficient variant in the Mazda BT-50 range is the XS dual-cab pickup 1.9 auto, which uses a claimed 7.0L/100km.
The 4×2 range opens with the BT-50 XS single-cab chassis 1.9 auto, priced at $35,520 and extends to the BT-50 XTR dual-cab pickup 3.0 auto, starting at $51,540. Both prices exclude on-road costs.
The entire range is covered by Mazda's five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, and wears a five-star ANCAP safety rating from 2022.
Mitsubishi Triton
There is only one 4×2 variant in the Triton range. The GLX 4×2 dual-cab ute uses a claimed 7.5L/100km.
It's priced at $43,690 before on-road costs.
If you service the ute through a Mitsubishi dealer, the GLX will be backed by a 10-year, 200,000km warranty. The Mitsubishi Triton has a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
Nissan Navara
The Nissan Navara SL 4×2 manual single-cab chassis and dual-cab pickup both use a claimed 7.2L/100km.
Starting at $33,550 before on-road costs, the 4×2 range kicks off with the Nissan Navara SL 4×2 manual single-cab chassis and extends to the ST-X 4×2 automatic dual-cab pickup priced at $51,945 before on-road costs.
The 2024 Nissan Navara had a five-star safety rating based on ANCAP testing conducted in 2015, though this has now expired. Like the wider Nissan range, the Navara lineup is also backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.
Toyota HiLux
The most fuel-efficient 4×2 variants of the Toyota HiLux use a claimed 7.5L/100km.
The 4×2 ute range starts at $26,475 with the HiLux Workmate 2.7 5MT and extends to the SR5 Hi-Rider 2.8TD 6AT, priced at $57,610 before on-roads.
The entire HiLux range is backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty. It also wears a five-star ANCAP safety rating for vehicles sold onwards of July 2019.
