Gambling for animal rights: New RSPCA lottery on the way

Digital lottery company, Jumbo Interactive Limited, will provide their Powered by Jumbo online platform to host the fundraiser.

The Jumbo and RSPCA deal is for three years with an option to extend for a further three years.

The Powered by Jumbo technology has been used by other government and charity operators in Australia such as Deaf Lottery and NDVR Endeavour Foundation.

RSPCA Queensland CEO Darren Maier said Jumbo's "best-in-class" lottery software drove the partnership.

"Growing our supporter base is vital for us to continue to deliver our operations and programs that see us care for and protect over 42,000 animals in Queensland every year," Mr Maier said.

"We're very excited to be working with the RSPCA, an iconic brand in Australia, to help it digitally transform and grow their lottery program, and continue to provide lifesaving animal welfare services across Australia," Jumbo CEO Mike Veverka said.

Jumbo said it will receive a service fee for RSPCA's use of its platform and select technology-enabled services.

Lottery tickets will also be sold via Jumbo's reseller website, OzLotteries.

RSPCA Australia currently sells online raffles which are drawn every four months.

According to the RSPCA, 40 per cent of funds directly fight animal cruelty.

The current draw, which closes on July 25, offers cars for the first and second prize, and a European river cruise for the third prize.

The raffles are currently hosted on the RSPCA website and on Jumbo's reseller website, Oz Lotteries.

An RSPCA Queensland spokesperson said the new national lottery program was still in development and more details would be available closer to the 2025 financial year.
