The announcement comes after a series of major Australian music festival cancellations including Splendour in the Grass, Groovin the Moo and Falls Festival.
Triple J, in partnership with Music Australia, is bringing the one-day festival back 20 years since it was first held in Natimuk, western Victoria in 2004.
One Night Stand travelled around the country to towns such as Port Pirie, Dubbo, Geraldton, Mount Isa and St Helens but hasn't been held since 2019.
In 2024 the festival will be a one-day, all-ages, drug and alcohol-free live music event held in regional Australia and raising funds for music industry charity Support Act.
"At a time when the local music industry needs support, the ABC is thrilled to come to the party with the return of triple j's One Night Stand," ABC managing director David Anderson said.
"We recognise the festival landscape in Australia has changed since we last put on a One Night Stand.
"Triple J and the ABC is working with Support Act and Music Australia on how best we can use this event to increase much needed investment in the Australian music industry..."
Organisers are encouraging people in regional Australia to put their town forward with a pitch to Triple J on why hosting One Night Stand would make a difference to their community.
It comes after Splendour in the Grass was scrapped a week after tickets went on sale in March with organisers citing "unexpected events".
The shock announcement came as another blow to the local music industry and festival scene in Australia.
NSW's music minister John Graham said at the time he was "deeply worried about the health of the festival scene" in the state.
Groovin the Moo also cancelled its six-date festival tour a week after tickets went on sale due to insufficient sales.
The festival was set to visit regional towns such as Bendigo in Victoria and Newcastle in NSW during April and May.
