The bag, designed to store Christmas ham, is dotted with yuletide motifs and an inadvertent play on the words of terrorist organisation Hamas.
The Australian Jewish Association complained to Kmart's parent company Wesfarmers that the resemblance between the bag's slogan and the terrorist group Hamas "may cause the company some embarrassment".
"Check out the special Christmas bag currently available via K-Mart online. Yes, it's real!!" the AJA posted to X.
"Although this is potentially funny (the AJA committee has tossed around some non-PC jokes) it's really not a good look," the post said.
"So we've politely written to Wesfarmers corporate suggesting the product be pulled."
Kmart conceded and removed the bags from their shelves saying "we got it wrong on this occasion and we apologise unreservedly".
"When designing this product we clearly didn't think through all the implications and the product has been removed from sale."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Commenters online queried when these products were designed and asserted they would have been in production well before the Israel-Hamas war started on October 7.
"Talk about a storm in a tea cup. It's a calico bag specifically for storing ham," a post that had been 'upvoted' 4,300 times said.
"The screen printed logo would have been designed and manufactured long before the latest conflict between the Israelis and Hamas. Now this resource goes straight to landfill."
