The Pakistan-born Australian cricketer and his wife welcomed their second baby in June but the child's short life was plagued by "a painful and tough fight", he said on X, formerly Twitter.
"I believe you are in a better place, we will miss you so much," he said.
Former cricketers, journalists and fans have shared an outpouring of love and well wishes for the Melbourne Renegades bowler.
Sports journalist Daniel Cherny said he was "sending love at this impossibly hard time".
Former Pakistani cricketer Yasir Hameed said he was "very sad to know this, may Allah give sabar to [you and your] family".
