The rubble of Oasis Church on Rockhampton's Park Avenue was being cleared by emergency services after the community hub was "engulfed" by flames.
The devastated parish heard the news just before 6am after Pastors Nathan and Rachel posted the news to Facebook.
Without access to the church, the group held their service in a neighbouring park with parishioners coming armed with camping chairs.
A 33-year-old Gympie man was charged with arson shortly after 9am.
He's due to appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on August 28.
Detectives are still seeking anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area at the time of the fire or may have relevant footage that could help the investigation.
