The start of the school holidays has been soured by strong winds causing flight delays and cancellations at Sydney Airport.

Nearly 30 flights scheduled to take off before midday are listed as cancelled on June 30 with the airport operating with a single runway.
"Sydney Airport has been advised by Airservices Australia that single runway operations will be in place today due to strong winds," a Sydney Airport spokesperson said.
"As a result, there are some flight delays and cancellations.
"Airlines are working hard to re-accommodate passengers and get them on their way."
Passengers are encouraged to contact their airline if they have questions regarding the status of their flight.

An Airservices Australia spokesperson said single runway operations were put in place at 7am "due to strong, gusty westerly winds" at the airport.
"This decision is purely weather and safety-related," the spokesperson said.
A Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson said westerly winds were forecast at Sydney Airport until early in the afternoon.
Westerly winds of about 37 km/h or more pose a hazard to aircraft on north-south runways due to strong cross winds, the spokesperson said.
June 30 is the last day of the school term in NSW and the ACT, while Victorian students are already a week into their winter break.
