A woman parked her car at a business premises on Hampstead Road, stepping out for a brief moment.
Seizing the opportunity, an unknown man swiftly got into her white Mazda SUV and sped away with the woman's one-year-old son asleep in the back seat.
Security camera footage from the pet shop in Clearview, South Australia, captured the frantic moment when the mother, realising the theft, dashed out of the door in a desperate attempt to stop the thief.
She lunged at the driver's side door, struggling to regain control of her vehicle, but after being dragged several metres she lost her grip and the car sped away.
In a race against time, the police used the victim's mobile phone to track the stolen vehicle.
Miraculously, just 20 minutes later, the car was found on Rowe Circuit with the child unharmed and safe inside.
