South Australian sheep farmer Melissa McGorman, who appeared on Big Brother in 2021, said FMD was "completely out of control" in Indonesia in a video posted to TikTok on Wednesday, July 20.
"It's spreading everywhere. They don't know what properties have it, and it's just in an uncontrolled state. So when we sort of push for we'd love the border to be closed, we're talking temporarily just until that country gets it under control," Ms McGorman said in the video.
"And so I think if we closed the border, then all resources that we've been put in place here to stop it from entering can go over to Indonesia and help them get it under control quicker."
Ms McGorman said closing the border would also incentivise Indonesia to get the FMD outbreak under control in order to continue receiving Australian tourists.
"While it's out of control over there, shutting the border is probably a really good idea because we've just got so much traffic going to and from Indonesia and Bali at this time in the holiday season," she said.
