The new Return and Earn's Reverse Vending Centre (RVC) opened today by TOMRA Cleanaway, Network Operator for Return and Earn.
The new air-conditioned facility features six indoor reverse vending machines providing an all-weather option with more capacity for recycling bottles and cans.
"Residents of the Georges River and Sutherland Shire council areas are already enthusiastic recyclers, having recycled more than 46 million and 84 million containers respectively since Return and Earn launched in December 2017," TOMRA Cleanaway chief executive ofificer James Dorney said..
"Alongside the other Return and Earn return points already in place in the area, these new-format sites will provide Southern Sydney locals greater access to the scheme and more convenience," Mr Dorney said.
Return and Earn currently averages over 40 million containers returned for recycling each week via its 600-plus network of return points across the state. Consumers receive a 10c refund for each eligible bottle or can they return, or they can choose to donate their refund to one of the charity partners listed on the machine including current local donation partner Georges River College.
Users of the Peakhurst RVC will have the option to print a voucher for the refund amount, redeemable for cash at Woolworths, or alternatively they can opt for an e-voucher or payment into their PayPal account by downloading the MyTOMRA app before visiting.
"We want to encourage Southern Sydney residents to continue getting involved and doing their bit to help local community groups and schools raise much needed funds through the new centre," Mr Dorney said.
The new Peakhurst Reverse Vending Centre is located at 139 Boundary Road, Peakhurst and is open from 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 6pm on Sunday.
The Sylvania Waters Return and Earn machine is open daily between 7am and 7pm at 223B Belgrave Esplanade, Sylvania Waters.
