A Newcastle woman charged with trying to defraud the National Disability Insurance Scheme of $174,000 has been refused bail.

Susan Reed of Wallsend is accused of fraudulently receiving the NDIS benefits after submitted fraudulent invoices for services that were never provided to her.
The 66-year-old was charged with dealing with proceeds of crime, obtaining a financial advantage by deception and a breach of bail.
The woman was arrested last Friday, but did not apply for bail which was formally refused.
The matter will return to court next week.
