Sutherland hit the ground running with Ben Dwarshuis taking Saints opener Nicholas Stapleton's wicket in the first over for a duck.
It wasn't a good start for the St George skipper, but his team weathered the Sutherland onslaught as the strong southerly blew through.
The Sutherland bowlers tried hard, but the red and whites played the waiting game and punished the loose balls on a hard and fast outfield.
Tom Engelbrecht top-scored for Saints with a hard-fought 58 off 64 balls and was joined by Mitchell Gray (41) and Kaleb Phillips (32) in reaching a fair score of 207 in 44.5 overs, but captain Stapleton was very disappointed that his team was out in the 45th over and was unable to last the 50 overs.
Sutherland bowlers Dwarshuis, Ritchie and Fallins took three wickets each.
In the chase Sutherland captain Williams tried his best to stop a collapse with a fighting 17 but losing the first five wickets for 30 runs made it a tough ask.
Ben Dwarshuis dug in for the blues top score (23), but the writing was on the wall and they were rolled for just 81 runs in 31 overs.
Nick Stapleton took 3-15 and Luke Bartier 3-12 for a comprehensive win.
Saints captain Stapleton was surprised with the lack of runs on the day given that both he and Sutherland captain Chris Williams felt that the pitch was good enough for each team to be aiming for 250 plus runs. "Given that we thought the wicket was pretty good I'm happy to come away with the win and am pleased with our effort with the ball", Stapleton said.
On Sunday St George faced Mosman at Allan Border Oval in the Kingsgrove Sports Twenty20 Cup and they finished with a score of 8-156 which Mosman ran down in the last over.

St George faced Mosman at Allan Border Oval they won the toss and batted first with all the top order getting a start with Kaleb Phillips top-scoring with a solid 50 runs off 41 balls and joined by Matthew Hopkins with a 36.
The tailenders struggled against the Mosman attack and finished with a score of 8-156 which Mosman ran down in the last over.
