Tradies pointscore trophy stays at Wanda SLSC

Overall honours went to the home club Wanda SLSC, winning the Tradies Trophy for highest club point score, followed by North Cronulla, Cronulla, Elouera, South Maroubra and North Bondi.

Leading open athletes, masters and nippers from clubs across the Sydney region took part in the carnival, now in its fourth year.

The event is an important hit-out for competitors in the lead up to the Sydney Branch and NSW State Championships, with the Australian Surf Life Saving Titles, to be held in April.

Wanda competitors stood up at their home beach winning the coveted Mixed Ocean Lifesaver Relay, the last event of the day.

Hayden Allum and Britney Pierce took the Open Ironperson races with Carla Papac the 2km Ski Challenge.

North Cronulla's Will Budd won the Men's Board Race when Wanda's Noah Steiner tripped on the water's edge and Leah and Alex Rampoldi won the Open Women's Beach Sprint and Flags.

Elouera's Michael Hannah won the Marc Leabeater Men's Open Beach Sprint and Harry Came the Open Surf Race. Cronulla's Sasha Popovic won the Open Male Flags

Greg Allum OAM, carnival organiser, said the event's strength is that it brings together competitors of all ages, gender and ability.

"It's all about young and older generations participating together, enjoying a great day out and putting their lifesaving skills on display.

"A highlight for me was the competitor with disability events. They've been an important addition to our surf sports carnivals, and it was fantastic to see the young competitors taking part.

"Carnivals can't happen without support and we particularly thank sponsors the Tradies, Audi Sutherland, Brooks, Channel 9, Fitness First, Gerard Malouf and Partners and Southside Animal Hospital, as well as the stallholders who helped create a wonderful festival atmosphere," Allum said.

Wanda's star ironwoman Britney Pierce said she hopes all the nippers can keep participating and get as much out of the sport as she has.
