Held annually, National Discover Sailing Day aims to encourage people to find out more about sailing and give it a go.
This year, the day will be held on Sunday, October 28.
Port Hacking’s club sailing captain Alistair Rowe said the day is a great way to connect with the community.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for us to welcome the community to our club and our sport,” he said.
Rowe said community members will be given the opportunity to head out on the water with experienced skippers and crew.
“We encourage anyone who has ever wanted to try sailing to come and have a look and enjoy a sail with an experienced club member,” he said.
The day is part of Australian Sailing’s Discover Sailing program, which was launched in 2012.
The initiative was designed to get more people out on the water, to learn and enjoy all the benefits sailing has to offer.
The club offers assistance for sailors and boat owners of all abilities, with children as young as 15 encouraged to go out on the water with experienced crew.
