Led by the Kogarah Municipal Band, representatives from the naval cadets, Kogarah RSL Sub-Branch and the Kogarah Youth Club were among those to join the 7.15am march to the cenotaph in Jubilee Avenue.
This was the final Anzac Day for the current Kogarah RSL Club, which in the next month will vacate the building to make way for the construction of a new club and apartment project undertaken by the RSL in partnership with developer Capital Bluestone.
Kogarah RSL Club general manager Grant Amer said Anzac Day was always a special day for for the RSL club and this year’s event had even more significance with the impending closure of the current premises.
‘’Anzac Day is the most important day of the year for our RSL club,’’ Mr Amer said. ‘’It gives the community a chance to pay their respects and honour the sacrifice made by so many soldiers who never came home.’’
In order to give the old premises a proper send off Mr Amer said the Kogarah RSL Club will hold a farewell party on Sunday, May 29.
Club management is asking for members to contribute memorabilia – such as old newsletters, photos or membership cards – to a display at the party.
All members – past and present – and the community are invited to attend the party from 2pm which will include entertainment, refreshments and seven $200 cash prizes every two hours.
