The free help desk — manned by JPs at the Cronulla Library two days a week — was the idea of Cronulla resident Filomena Sousa who saw a lack of JPs in the shire.
"We think there is a big need for a JP service in the area," Ms Sousa said.
"I needed a JP myself years ago and found it really difficult.
"I decided to become a JP and set up a help desk.
"As far as I know there has never been a JP help desk in Cronulla."
The help-desk volunteers are all members of the NSW Justices Association.
The desk will operate at Cronulla Library on Thursdays and Saturdays from 11am to 2pm.
"If the demand is there, we will be available on other days of the week," Ms Sousa said.
JP services are also available at the Southgate Shopping Centre, Sylvania, at the front entrance near the Westpac Bank, on Wednesdays from 9am to noon, and at Kogarah Courthouse on Tuesdays from 10.15am to 2pm.
