And if things pan out for Brooke Anderson, the young athlete could be prominent for selection when rugby sevens makes its debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The Brighton-Le-Sands teenager will play in the Australian women's rugby sevens team in China.
Brooke, 18, has grown up in a sporting family and has played rugby league, rugby union, football and Oztag.
Sporting talent runs in the family. Her brother Brent Anderson plays for St George Illawarra Dragons Holden Cup under-20s team.
Brooke has played for Australia in Oztag and is the lone player from St George in Australia's only female team at the Youth Olympic Games.
She said it was a huge honour to be selected for the Youth Olympic Games.
Brooke is contracted to the Australian Rugby Union. "I'm humbled and thrilled," she said.
She said her parents, Michael and Thresa had been an enormous support and guidance throughout her life. "They've done so much for me."
The former Blakehurst High School student leaves for China on August 13 with the national sevens team.
The elusive runner and clever passing player said she is looking forward to the experience of representing at her first Youth Olympic Games.
She played for Australia at the World Sevens at last year's Australian Youth Festival. The national team won gold.
About 3800 competitors, 16 to 18, will compete between August 16 and 28 in Nanjing. An estimated 204 countries will take part in 222 events over 12 days.
The 28 official Olympic summer sports, including golf and rugby sevens, will be contested. Australia is sending 90 athletes to China.
