Schneider has ended an 18-month break from performing after the birth of her son, Sullivan.
A heartfelt homage to Day, whose 92nd birthday will be on April 3, Schneider's Doris will include Sentimental Journey, Everybody Loves A Lover and the Academy Award-winning songs Que Sera, Sera from Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much, and Secret Love from Calamity Jane.
Doris will open at the Sydney Opera House on May 6 for a short season before moving to Melbourne and Brisbane.
Schneider was raised in St George by her mother — country singer Mary Schneider — and said she became a Doris Day fan after seeing her in Calamity Jane.
"Doris Day was such a huge talent," Schneider said.
"She could sing, dance and act and
I used to think that when I grew up
I wanted to be just like her.
"There will only ever be one Doris and — sadly — she has not performed for more than 30 years, but there are many great songs associated with her and I get to sing them in this show."
