The new competition is based on the successful FA Cup in Great Britain, which gives non-professional clubs such as Rockdale, Sutherland Sharks and St George FC in NSW and other states the chance to qualify and host some of the bigger A-League clubs.
Preliminary matches involving more than 600 clubs in Australia have begun, ahead of the national knock-out FFA Cup round 32, kicking off in late July, when 10 A-League clubs will join 22 others from the eight feeder states and territory. See more in the Leader on Tuesday.
